Leave your leaves

As soon as the leaves fall, many dutiful neighbours get to work and start raking them up to be collected. But did you know that leaving your leaves over the winter is beneficial to the local eco system? Fallen leaves provide habitat for bugs and small animals and leaves that are left to biodegrade feed nutrients to the soil. This helps the grass and the plants in your garden grow better next year.

This year why not leave the leaves on the ground and save yourself some work and help the environment at the same time. If you think your neighbours might judge you, you can leave notes in their mailboxes about the reason why you’re leaving your leaves. Then they’ll understand what you’re doing and you might even inspire others to do the same.
