Volunteer at a seniors home
Did you know that many seniors who live in long term care facilities have very few visitors? And recent research suggests that almost 6o percent of residents in the U.S. may have no visitors at all. This leaves seniors who live in residences feeling lonely or out of place, which can take a toll on both their mental and physical health. Happily, most senior living facilities welcome volunteers. There are many things you can do, such as organize a nature walk, lead a weekly dance class, teach a craft, start a book club, or lead a tech support group. Start thinking about if you have a skill that you could teach or a service you could offer. You can turn a few hours a week into an experience that both you and the seniors you bond with will remember forever. And if these sound too daunting, then just being there to spend time and chat with residents is an excellent first step.
