Slow down

Slow down

Everything in nature rests. Plants and animals all have dormant seasons where they rest and recover from growing or from environmental stressors. And in the past, humans did too. We used to grow our own food, work hard during the growing and harvest seasons, and then rest in the winter where we would exert minimal energy and live off of the summer’s harvest. Due to the global agricultural system and modern work weeks, however, we no longer have a rest season. We are busy all year round with two or three weeks of vacation peppered in. We also aren’t getting enough sleep due to all of the demands on our time.

We must be proactive about getting rest. We need to make sleep a priority and we need to carve out times of the year where we slow down and don’t take as much on. We will all be healthier and happier for it.
