Avoid glitter in cards and wrapping paper
If you decide to buy wrapping paper or holiday cards this year, avoid ones that have glitter, foil, plastic parts, etc. because these cannot be recycled. If you receive a gift that is wrapped in conventional wrapping paper, try to open it carefully so that the paper can be re-used. You can also re-use ribbons by untying them (not cutting) or bows (use tape to re-stick) and, of course, gift bags and tissue paper. When opening presents, have a bag ready to collect materials that can be re-used next year.
