Try fear setting

Is there something you have been wanting to do but you’re too scared? Like ask someone to play or ask a question in class? Or maybe it’s something that you have to do, like give a presentation. When we scared to do something, often we avoid doing it or thinking about it because it’s stressful to focus on it. But while this might make us more comfortable in the short term, it actually doesn’t serve us well in the long term because it stops us from doing the thing that will make us grow as a person or accomplish the scary but worthwhile goal. So, there’s a thing called Fear setting which can be a great tool to help people overcome their fears. It’s very simple. Basically, you just write down the worst things that can happen if you do the thing you’re afraid to to. These can be things like “fail,” or “people will laugh at me”, or “you get rejected” or “you are embarrassed”. Then once you have all of those things down on paper, you can write out ways to either prevent those bad things from happening (be well prepared for presentation, for example) or repair those bad things if they happen (think of a comeback for those that might laugh, for example).Once everything is out in front of you, you will see that the last is manageable even if it’s challenging and you’ll see that there are ways to figure it out.
