Contact your elected officials
Contacting your local representative is one of the most effective ways to have your voice heard on the issues you care about. Calls and emails are tallied by staffers and the counts are given to the representatives, informing them how strongly their constituents feel about a current issue. The sooner you reach out, the more likely it is that your voice will influence their position. When reaching out, keep it short, stick to a single issue and be respectful to the staffers who are taking your message. Here’s a general script you can use for phone or email:⠀
“Hello, my name is Jane Smith. I’m a constituent from City, zip code/postal code 12345. I don’t need a response. I am concerned about the ISSUE and I strongly encourage OFFICIAL to please vote for a funding package that solves this situation (or whatever the proposed solution may be for your issue). Thank you for your hard work.”⠀
